A 7‑day crewed catamaran trip through the British Virgin Islands is one of the most unforgettable ways to experience the Caribbean—and sailing aboard the Delana Mae elevates the journey into something truly magical. With turquoise water, steady trade winds, and dozens of postcard‑perfect islands, the BVI is a dream destination for sailors, snorkelers, and anyone craving a luxurious escape at sea. There is nothing quite like the first time the sails are raised, the catamaran comes alive as wind catches and the motors are silenced.

Whether you’re planning your first BVI yacht charter or returning for another round of island bliss, this detailed itinerary will help you visualize every stop, every swim, and every sunset as you plan an adventure aboard your catamaran of choice.

We arrived in Tortola a couple nights early and stayed at Sebastian’s on the Beach. This removes the impact of any travel glitches that may occur, gave us time to recover from the flights and allowed us to start relaxing in the beauty and warmth of the BVI’s so we were well rested and ready to go as we boarded the Delana Mae.

Day 1: Tortola → Cooper Island → Virgin Gorda — The Adventure Begins

Your catamaran adventure starts on Tortola, the largest island in the BVI and the perfect jumping‑off point for a week of sailing. We met the Delana Mae at Village Cay Marina, a short (although steep and windy) taxi ride from Sebastian’s on the Beach. After boarding your catamaran of choice, you’ll settle into spacious cabins, meet your crew, and enjoy a welcome cocktail as the sails unfurl.

A short cruise brings you to Cooper Island, a boutique eco‑resort destination known for its laid‑back charm.

We spent the afternoon:

  • Exploring the resort

  • Burgers at the beachside restaurant

  • Enjoying rum tastings at Cooper Island Rum Bar

Later in the afternoon, we sailed to Virgin Gorda and anchored in the lagoon next to Coco Maya Restaurant. We enjoyed snorkeling, water toys and an amazing dinner prepared onboard.

Day 2: The Baths → Coco Maya Restaurant → Virgin Gorda

Wake to the gentle rocking of the catamaran and a warm Caribbean breeze, the smell of coffee and an amazing breakfast prepared by our crew.

Today brings one of the most iconic sights in the Caribbean: The Baths on Virgin Gorda. Massive granite boulders form tunnels, pools, and hidden beaches that feel like a natural playground. This is a highlight day for photography, adventure, and classic BVI scenery.

Our crew arranged a tour of Virgin Gorda as the cruise ship passengers flocked to The Baths during the early part of the day.  It is a beautiful island with many scenic overlooks and a great introduction to the islands. They timed our tour to end at The Baths just as the crowds headed back to the cruise ships, and we enjoyed a relaxed and uncrowded walk through the iconic boulders.

After exploring The Baths:

  • Grab a drink at the Poor Man’s Bar, a beachfront cash only bar located at the exit of The Baths

  • Grab a snack at Above the Baths, a restaurant and bar with a pool at the entrance to the park

  • Dinner and drinks at Coco Maya, a Latin inspired restaurant and dance the night away on the sandy beach to the house DJ

Day 3: Virgin Gorda → Saba Rock

After another magical night of sleeping onboard, we woke to breakfast and were excited to get watch as our captain set sail once again.

  • Stop at Savannah Bay to enjoy time in “The Pool (our captain’s call every time we would stop and they would deploy the water toys – “The Pool Is Open!”) and lunch

  • Sail north to Virgin Gorda Sound

  • Anchor near Saba Rock or Bitter End Yacht Club (we were right off of Saba Rock)

  • Grab a drink from the Rum Runner

  • Enjoy dinner aboard the Delana Mae under a star‑filled sky

Day 4: Virgin Gorda → Anegada — The Flat Island Paradise

A longer sail brings you to Anegada, the only coral island in the BVI. Its flat landscape contrasts beautifully with the volcanic peaks of the other islands. We were lucky and spotted a whale that played with our catamaran during our sail!

On Anegada you can:

  • Rent Mokes to tour the island, one rum bar to the next

  • Swim/snorkel at many great reefs around the island

  • Spot flamingos at the salt ponds

  • Feast on fresh Anegada lobster grilled right on the beach

Anegada feels remote, wild, and wonderfully peaceful—an essential stop on any 7‑day BVI sailing itinerary.

Day 5: Anegada → Guana Island → Jost Van Dyke — Home of the Painkiller

After a sunrise departure, the Delana Mae sails towards Guana Island for some great coral garden snorkeling and lunch onboard. Back under sail and in no time we were anchored in White Bay, one of the liveliest beaches in the BVI. No BVI catamaran trip is complete without a stop at Jost Van Dyke, home of the world‑famous Soggy Dollar Bar and its signature cocktail, the Painkiller.

Spend the day:

  • Swimming ashore to White Bay

  • Bar‑hopping along the beach

  • Watching the fish and rays around the catamaran as the sun sets after dinner

Jost Van Dyke is the BVI at its most fun—sun, sand, music, and unforgettable memories.

Day 6: Jost Van Dyke White Bay → Sandy Spit → Jost Van Dyke Diamond Cay

We spent the morning walking on the empty beach of White Bay before the party crowds descend a few hours later.  Breakfast and a quick sail took us to Sandy Spit. We anchored near Sandy Spit and swam to shore. This little island with its crowning of palm trees reminded me of a Corona commercial come to life! Lunch and some drone shots, then back to Jost Van Dyke. Our captain chose Diamond Cay for the night.

Day 7: Jost Van Dyke → Norman Island – Jump off the Willy T

After another delicious breakfast, we were able to hike to the Bubbly Pool. This half mile hike takes you to a natural phenomenon where the waves crash over rocks into a pool making a natural jacuzzi. After our hike and lunch, we set sail for Norman Island, home to the infamous William Thornton, better known as the Willy T. Our captain anchored us close so we could enjoy the action.

Activities on Norman Island:

·       Enjoy a drink and appetizer at Pirates Bight

·       Shotskis and the jump from Willy T

·       Snorkeling with sea turtles and other fish in the bay or at the sea caves

Day 8: Jost Van Dyke → The Indians → Tortola — World Class Snorkeling and A Final Sail Aboard Delana Mae

Your final morning aboard the Delana Mae is all about savoring the last stretch of open water. Enjoy breakfast on deck, take one last swim, and soak in the panoramic views as you sail back to Tortola.

We were lucky and our crew didn’t have another charter, so we were able to stop at The Indians for a birthday celebration and a great morning of snorkeling, swimming through the Arch and one last opportunity to enjoy the beautiful BVI waters.

Our final sail took us to the ferry dock so we could catch our ride back to the USVI. After disembarking, you’ll carry home a week’s worth of memories—sunset sails, hidden beaches, incredible meals, and the unmistakable freedom of exploring the British Virgin Islands by catamaran.
